Back to Work
Oh God it's only the SECOND day of the FIRST week and already I haven't read my Macro notes for tomorrow's lecture. And horror of horrors, I have to sign up for a Math workshop for my ECMT1010 because it's been nigh 3 years since I last did Add Maths and about a year since I did C4 so I can safely say that I no longer remember things like permutations and combinations, natural logarithms, exponential functions, geometric and arithmetic progressions etc. This is actually quite embarrassing, I did get an A1 and A after all but I suppose time ravages the brain.

Catching Up
Last post was ages ago zomg. Even the World Cup is over. But let's try to get a little bit up to scratch and without further ado...*drum roll please*..The winners of the 2010 World Cup are...
SPAIN! :)

There he is, their gorgeous captain Iker Casillas (of Real Madrid) celebrating an incredible double of winning both international titles in 4 years, Euro '08 and now the big one, the WC. The game itself however left a lot to be desired; as the Dutch sadly decided to resort to strong-arm and dirty tactics in a bid to unsettle the fluent, passing game of La Furia Roja, which is their main weapon. Main offenders included Mark van Bommel and Nigel de Jong, both guilty of horrendous fouls on Spanish players. de Jong was extremely lucky to remain on the field after an extraordinary kung-fu kick on Xabi Alonso's chest. A sending off seemed imminent in an extremely bad-tempered match where no fewer than thirteen yellow cards were dished out and true enough, Dutch centre-half Johnny Heitinga was given his marching orders by referee Howard Webb with 10 minutes remaining in extra time. That seemed to be the turning point in a listless game which seemed destined to go into penalties with the score locked at 0-0 with 110 minutes already played. However, from a goal kick which Casillas launched high upfield; the Spanish nicked a goal out of nowhere when Fabregas collected Casillas's long ball and slid an exquisite pass through the heart of the defence to Iniesta; who made no mistake with a sharp finish into Stekelenburg's right corner to give La Furia Roja the lead with 10 minutes to go and surely their first World Cup title. The Dutch players furiously appealed for offside but to no avail. Within a few minutes, it was all over and wild, ecstatic celebrations soon broke in Madrid and in Johannesburg Soccer City stadium; with Casillas seen weeping after the final whistle. I feel sorry for the Oranje; they had a marvellous campaign this time around and to be the bridesmaid for the third time must surely be very painful. However, at the end of the day; beautiful football triumphed and no one can say Spain have not deserved their victory. So, Viva Espana and congratulations once again; they deserve it!
