The Dark Knight

Christian Bale as Batman

Heath Ledger as the Joker, brandishing his ace in the hole

Went to 1U to watch the Dark Knight with Wen An today. And as expectd, it was really really fantastic! The biggest blockbuster of summer 2008 totally deserved the rave reviews, generous praise and accolades heaped on it. To be honest, I don't really think Heath Ledger's performance merited Oscar nomination, but he definitely brought a new dimension to the Joker's character. Jack Nicholson in the first Batman movie was supposedly witty and crazy with a little wickedness added for good measure. This Joker was no joke (pun intended!) to be messed with. Ledger's character was twisted, bloodthirsty and evil to the core. Totally overshadowing Christian Bale (he seemed perhaps more gorgeous in Batman Begins), Ledger thrilled and chilled the audience with his sardonic but ingenious schemes to turn Gotham City into a living hell. Definitely more gory and action packed than the first installment, I would have a PG-13 rating slapped on it if I was the film producers. I kind of closed my eyes once or twice during the killings! My only complains were that firstly, Rachel Dawes (played by Maggie Gyllenhaal) was too ugly and should have been reprised by Katie Holmes; and the plot deviated a little from the original comic book series. Being quite a die-hard devotee of the Caped Crusader, I found it a tad annoying that Barbara Gordon was cast as Commisioner Gordon's wife instead of his daughter; but that's that I suppose. The only problem facing us now is who on earth is going to replace Ledger as the Joker for the next movie, as it would be an astronomical task to find someone who would be able to duplicate his superb portrayal. I will be waiting for the day they include a hot Robin to accompany Christian Bale on his mission to kick some bad guy butt in Gotham. :)

Cheers to Frank for being on target against Guangzhou Pharmaceutical and Chengdu Blades. That'll show Abramovich what'll be his biggest mistake if he lets Frank go to Inter Milan on a FREE TRANSFER next year. Hopefully, you will score a hat-trick against our sh**** Malaysian XI on Tuesday and show them what REAL class is.

Unpredictable

Life is like the weather...unpredictable.

You can plan what to do, but somehow things never turn up the way they should.

A-Voice interview tomorrow....hope I'm not the worst applicant. That proposal was certainly shoddy work lol

J and Co. Donuts *came* to HELP today. The very mention of the word 'donuts' had everyone scrambling like crazy idiots downstairs. Since there's half a dozen in each box, all six of us (Saranya, Brian, Jia Ern, me, Wan Joo, Li Wei) shared. Except for Saranya and Wan Joo, the rest of us sugar gluttons had chocolate since I hate almonds. Mmmm deliciously sinful, providing us with the much needed energy before Account's class. Pity there wasn't that chocolate mocha flavour Brian claims is out of this world.

Hot Water

Yep I'm up to my neck in hot water.

Today, this clever person had to go and open her email during her free period instead of reading her Chem like a good student. And what does she see? An email requesting all A-Voice sub-editor applicants to hand in a proposal on how to expand readership TOMORROW and to schedule an interview with the editor, Mr. John Lee himself on FRIDAY. It also includes a scary list of responsibilities and duties that come with the title of 'Sub-Editor' eg. Great interpersonal relationship skills, vast resourceful contacts to draw upon for funding and the coveted ability to work brilliantly under pressure..ouch.

The email was sent on Sunday and since I only opened it today, I have an insanely short period of time to complete the assignment. Well, I could look on the bright side and say that it was better opened today, than tomorrow haha. But seriously, I just feel like throwing in the towel already. My competitors? Adeline Matthew (whose English is seriously DA BOMB! DJ's BEST DEBATER!), Kalkena (Nostalgia Editor!!!), Nathalie Ker (SASA President!!), Pia and Alex (who are in Lit class and have co-written this issue of A-Voice's Perspective article with me, who have FANTASTIC English), Tara Thean (who has superb English as well, and speaks with an accent) and one more person I haven't heard of haha...Jeez, even I know when I'm licked. I should just give up already...but I think I should give it my best shot; however inferior and pathetic it seems.

*Sob* it seems like I will have NOTHING to put on my CV for uni. How am I ever going to get my scholarship now? :(

On a good note however, Mr. Francis seems to be getting less annoying, and his teaching skills seem to be improving. I could actually understand that depreciation question we were doing today! It's just a matter of getting used to I suppose...alah bisa tegal biasa and all that crap, as 'Po' would say.

Have to get started on that proposal so sayonara for now.

The Passer-By

Will you pass me by today?
Without a single glance?
Never knowing that I’ll be looking
Out for you
Waiting almost impatiently for when
Our paths will cross again
When you may bestow
That smile on me again.

Emotions bottled up
Yet spiraling out of control
Fizzing inside like champagne
A turmoil
A tempest
Of frustration and hope
Of agony and thirst
Of longing and admiration
My dreams are filled with nothing
But thoughts of you
You haunt my waking memories
But you don’t know how I feel.

But will you pass me by today?
Without even a simple hello?

Up on cloud nine
Soaring straight up to the heavens
Just one look
And you bring me back to Earth
Just one glance
Will make me forget who I am
And your smile is
Enough to make the sun peep out
Through the gloomiest days
The moon shine and illuminate
The darkest night
And brighten up my entire world.

Tell me
Is this love I’m feeling?
It’s something still so strange and new
Alien, almost
Tell me
If these are the signs
That are giving me away
My heart pounding
My cheeks flaming
My breath getting short
When you approach
Make me see the bright side
In life again
I find myself
Hanging around the corner
Waiting for a glimpse of you
So pathetic
But I can’t help it
Is this what you call love?

I see you coming my way
Excitement mounting high
Anxiety knotting up my chest
Hold my breath
As we pass within centimeters
Of each other
A nod
A small wave
A brief acknowledgement
And then gone
But I am content
For today.

Author's Note: Not wholly original, seeing as it was actually written for someone else and has already been published in Nostalgia 2007, but bear with me...

My hero/idol/fav footballer of all time, Frank Lampard, has been confirmed in the Chelsea squad for their Samsung Far East tour.

That means

FRANK LAMPARD IS COMING TO KUALA LUMPUR!!!

And...

I WON'T BE GOING TO SEE HIM!!!

My bro is busy studying for his UPSR trials, so we can't go. At least, I think that's why my father hasn't bought any tickets.

Curses and all that nonsense.

Can my week get any worse?

My big chance to meet him (or at the very least, see him live in action) is now no more.

So annoyed lol.

Frustrated

Yes I'm friggin frustrated.

I've said it a million times already.

I don't blame Mr. Francis at all. It's not that his teachings sucks big time; it's just that I'm getting impatient doing P&L accounts when we should be doing goodwill and such. Firstly, I don't like his teaching methods, (his explanations leave much to be desired) and I'm worried we won't finish on time, since next week we're supposed to be doing stock valuation, control accounts etc which was actually covered in like February last sem. The cynics in you would counter by saying he knows what he's doing. The honest conscience in me would tell you I'm just resentful at being dumped in his class without my consent.

Carynn and I called Mr. Awang today to ask if he could possibly slot us in. No deal.

Last hope: I put our names on the Mutual Swap List, but fat chance that we'll actually get a response. No one in their right mind would want to swap Mr. Awang for Mr. Francis.

Last last hope: Going to see Ms. Michelle on Monday to complain.

The resentment and worry is really eating at me. I only have 4 subjects...can't HELP provide us with some decent lecturers for a change?? I feel extremely short changed. Last term we got a part-time Econs teacher who couldn't teach for nuts, and a Chem teacher who was inexperienced at teaching the Edexcel syllabus. Thanks to them, I will probably be retaking my Chem and Econs Unit 2 papers because I was NEVER taught how to answer them properly.

This term, when I was finally daring to be happy because our class got great teachers (senior lecturers like Ms. Kimmie, Mr. Yeap and Mr. Philip) they come and do this to us. My annoyance at the adminstration looks set to extend for another term.

I'm feeling like I've hit rock bottom today...so don't shoot me if I'm all doom and gloom.

Since this blog is public, I won't air my dirty laundry in public.

Cheer 2008

Sunday 13th of July was Cheer 2008. It marks my attendance for the 5th (and probably last) time at the national competition in a row to support DJ's beloved red, white & black crew; Dynamitez.

I had initially abandoned my plan to go support them but at 1am 13th July 2008, I was inundated with messages from my old friends asking if I was going. And suddenly it just hit me: Was I really going to miss one of the biggest events on the school calendar? Was I really giving up the chance to scream "Boom Dynamitez!" one last time before we got too old to go anymore? And miss seeing most of my old friends?

The answer at 1.15 am was yes..probably.

But then, I had a dream at night...about Cheer, and somehow I was reminded of all the past Cheers I had attended..the brilliant blazes of colour, the deafening shouts from the supporters, the elation felt whenever we won a placing..and somehow, I just knew I had to go.

Enter Hui Fen, my saviour; who kindly agreed to provide my means of transportation there. Cheers to the girl for not being annoyed at my 11th hour decision!

Well, luckily for me, my mum wasn't too annoyed at my last minute plans.

We left about 12.15 pm and arrived there in the middle of lunch break at 1.20 pm. A sense of deja vu overwhelmed us (Hui Fen, Pei Chen and me) as we entered the stadium, feeling admittedly a little self conscious, almost as if we had *graduated already* and *pre-u students* tags slapped on our foreheads. But when I finally managed to locate the Dynamitez supporters area, we had stopped feeling so out of place. As we hadn't dyed our hair or got any wacky body piercings, we could still pass as Form 4 or 5 students. Luckily, Ming-See, May Wern, and Pei Fang had saved us a couple of seats. When we sat down, everything just seemed so familiar, surreal almost. The usual colours of dark green (Xavier), blue and yellow (Blitzerz), black and gold (Shirtliff) and red (Vulcanz) were still everpresent. Back at our own *territory*, the Dynamite mascot was still walking around and the usual banners and *dynamites* were still being held. While the other two were still inclined to feel a little pai se, I immediately settled into the familiarity of yelling the same old chants along with everyone else again. :) The stadium was ablaze with colour and the stadium almost vibrated with all the screaming and shouting that was going on. It seemed like loads of seniors had turned up: we spotted Grace, Wei Jing, Yong Meng, Ethan, Wei Kit, Seng Tuck, Cassandra, Wen Jo and May Suen as well.

The competition resumed at 2pm with Xavier of Convent Bukit Nanas opening the 2nd half of the show. They were pretty solid, and relatively better than their sister team, Adele. The few teams after them passed in a blur, but then it was time for the Dynamitez to perform. The screaming and cheering from our side of the stadium suddenly intensified, and we yelled ourselves hoarse as they ran out into the centre. At that moment, I swear I could feel everyone's heart beating rapidly in nervousness and anticipation. As defending champions, the pressure was on us to perform well.

My fears were allayed when they started their routine: Their movements were sharp, synchronised and it soon became clear that we were miles above most of the competition. As one, the DJ supporters cheered wildly whenever they executed a stunt perfectly; and the relief was great when they struck that last pose: It was perfect. At least, in our eyes.

After the euphoria had died down, the boredom started to sink in. Somehow, I just didn't have the patience to sit and watch until the results. Been there, done that already. So, along with Wen Jo; the four of us hatched a *daring* plan to ditch Cheer and jack off to KLCC to lepak.

After a weary hour involving LRTs moving in the wrong direction, *jakun-ness* on our part for not really knowing how to use public transport and being hassled and squashed in crowded trains, we finally reached our destination. Nothing too interesting really; just headed to the food court to get a bite. Wen Jo ordered spaghetti bologanaise and waffle, Hui Fen had orange juice, Pei Chen (who had a cough!) had some longan thingy with ice-cream while I satiated my hunger with half a banana waffle. After that, we displayed even more *jakun-ness* by cam-hogging (at my insistence, I must admit!) outside at the park; happily posing in front of the Twin Towers like a bunch of tourists until *disaster* struck and my accursed cam ran out of battery.

As the hour hand was nearing 6 pm, we paid a little trip to TopShop to ogle the clothes and Dunkin Donuts before taking the long, tiring trip back to the Kelana Jaya station. Walking back to the train station in KLCC, we received the bad news that we had obtained second place while Shirtliff had finally dethroned us. It was dissapointing, but it does give us an excuse to go back and see our team wrest back the title from the SBU bumblebees next year. However, it had been a great day out; catching up with my friends and being able to be totally comfortable with people you know quite well already.

If any of you are reading this, remember the next trip is Sunway Pyramid!

Tuesday, 15th July:-
1. I'm running a slight fever
2. I played computer games at Orange Shark and Mind Clip for 1and a 1/2 hours with Jia Ern in the library today instead of reading The Novice (her) and doing homework (me)
3. WHY DID MR. AWANG WANT TO SPLIT OUR ACCOUNTS CLASS??? Mr. Francis is DECENT at best, but not a PATCH on Mr. Awang!!!

Forever Plaid!

Well, it's been an interesting week back at college...so many new developments and experiences. But more on that later..first I want to write about the performance I just watched about 2 hours ago..Forever Plaid!

"Forever Plaid" is an off-Broadway musical that consists of a 4-man harmony quartet comprising the small and stout Sparky, geeky Smudge, Jinx and their unofficial leader, Frankie. They are currently performing at the Actor's Studio Bangsar from July 1-20. Having *tragically* died on the way to their first big gig (they were smashed by a bus full of Catholic schoolgirls on their way to see the Beatles), the show begins with the Plaids returning from the afterlife for one more chance of attaining musical glory.

The first 2 numbers were forgettable, but the show definitely livens up after that. The songs are typically old school Broadway numbers, with plenty of 'doo-dooos', sappy lyrics and corny choruses. However, the 4 lads have their own brand of charm and boyish appeal, and their fantastic performances more than makes up for the quality of the song lyrics. Although most of the dialogue wasn't that funny (I didn't really understand them), there were loads of moments of comedy, particularly nearing and after intermission. Stand-out numbers include "Perfidia" (where they paid homage to their buxom 3rd grade Spanish teacher), the melodious "Shangri-La", jazzy "Sixteen Tons", "Catch a Falling Star" and the piece de resistance, "Lady of Spain". In undoubtedly the funniest gag of the night, the quartet had the audience in stitches as Sparky cavorted around the stage first dressed as a Spanish senorita, then as a bull and charging through the matador, Jinx's red cloth. Yes, I could hear my father laughing his head off a few seats away.

After a very entertaining 90 minutes, the quartet signed off with their version of "Love Is a Many Splendoured Thing". For the oldies, it's a wonderful way to take a trip down Memory Lane as the Plaid lads served up their own takes on classic songs such as the Beatle's "She Loves You" (yes, sireee!), "Heart and Soul", and the finale. Definitely deserving of the rave reviews published in StarTwo, "Forever Plaid" is a wonderful show DEFINITELY not to be missed. So what if the plot's a little thin and the whole 4 part harmony thing is a little past its sell-by-date? Heck, even if the songs aren't exactly your cup of tea, you can always stare at the cute Frankie :)

It got me wishing a little wistfully perhaps that I would like to perform at least once (before I die and grow old) in a musical or a play. I love the arts, but it's definitely not a fantastically stable profession to go into. At least, not in Malaysia where we don't have Broadway or West End. In fact now I think of it, I haven't actually been on the stage for about 8 years..since I quit drama lessons. In secondary school, I preferred working behind the scenes (scriptwriter for 4 years!!); shying away from the spotlight. Oh well.

And now, away from the velvet curtains and mahogany stage of the theatre, back to reality.

Firstly, I am sad and surprised that Mr. James Chong, my chem teacher, has apparently retired from teaching (after only one sem with us!). He gave no indication that he was going to quit, even talking about the things he would be teaching us next term! Okay, he hated most of our class but still...? Now we have Mr. Yeap, and I would be lying if I say I didn't prefer him. Mr. James was great, but even then, Mr. Yeap really knows his stuff, being the longest-serving Chem teacher at HELP and he knows everything about Edexcel Chem at his fingertips. But it doesn't look as if he has any favourites and I haven't done myself any favours getting into his good books yet, so this may be the first time I go a term without endearing myself to the Chem teacher..lol. I know loads of people are glad that he's gone like Eu Jinn, but I for one can't help missing 'Grandpa James' a little..strict disciplinarian that he was.

And further bad luck..on Friday, Ms. Michelle came into the lab and announced that our class was going to be taken over by Mr. Francis! Yikes! I miss Mr. Awang already! I like him a lot, and the stories he tell are really funny! Mr. Francis taught Shawn korkor before, and Aunty Judy says he's good..but thanks to him, I GO BACK AT 4PM EVERYDAY NOW! God, this semester's timetable SUCKS. The timetable is friggin odd (12-4pm for two days!) and this means I shall probably languish in the library until gone five everyday. Fantastic.

But on the other hand, I'm beginning to like my class a lot better now. Due to the JPA scholarships, a few people have left and this means that several cliques have been broken. The class has shrunk to about 25, and this gives an opportunity for us to actually mix around more and become closer. I think I've laughed more this whole week that the entire last semester! The best part was on Thursday, where we kept on pressing the lift buttons so that the people in the lift kept on stopping at every floor! Absolutely hilarious to hear their shouts of annoyance, and the icing on the cake was when we stair climbers reached faster than them! In fact we were laughing so hard, we could hardly go up the stairs! Lame, but effective.

And I have aborted my decision to go for the SASA camp. Now that Felicia is not going, there is NO WAY I am going to Eagle Ranch (even if it's for a day and a half) with a whole bunch of people I don't really know and don't really like.

And, (surprise, surprise) I may even boycott the Chelsea match (I haven't asked my dad to buy tickets yet) because Red Rom is refusing to give Frank a new five year contract, and may sell him to Inter Milan! A travesty of the highest order, I am SO angry I am even thinking of wholly supporting the Gunners next season. Frank and JT are the heart and soul of the Blues, it's unthinkable to get rid of one of Stamford Bridge's biggest icons.

Cheer 2008 finals tomorrow. For the first time in 4 years, I won't be there. Since no one wanted to go with me, (and I didn't feel like going anyway); I'll just be hoping from my armchair that we can succesfully defend our title.

We are Dynamitez, together we unite!

Pierced!

Got my ears pierced today...and boy, does it ever hurt like HELL!

Maybe I'm exaggerating...but the ear lobes ARE a very tender spot for me..LOL

The tingling has kinda like subsided but maybe I'm still imagining the pain..psychosomatic hallucinations maybe.

But then again, it is a known fact that the pain increases in parallel with one's age...so maybe at 16 there's a lot of fat in my earlobe already so that's why it hurts...

I should really get a life and stop obsessing about mediocre trivialities like this.

Passssseeeed!

Yay I passed my Undang! 47/50...not bad :) And I scored 10/10 for Bahagian C.

My heart was beating so fast, I thought I was going to screw it up..and I made a few mistakes the first time, luckily I checked back!

Now, 3 more months to my birthday, then I can take my amali...

Divine Intervention!

Found this ridiculous picture of Cristiano Ronaldo and his inflatable rubber kangaroo. He's on holiday with his girlfriend in Italy I think. Haha I read that he fell off that absurd kangaroo while trying to swim in the sea.

God has taken pity on me...THE CHELSEA MATCH IS ACTUALLY ON THE 29TH INSTEAD OF THE 26TH!!!

That means it is now non-clashing with the SASA camp, woohoo!

Should I go for the Daughtry thingy?

I need to find a fellow amigo to go with me though. Any volunteers?

Undang tomorrow.

I so better pass.

I don't fancy studying those 500 questions again.

Zit..zit....lol..alright..no more alien business..its getting old and lame..I get it..oh yes, hats off for Wen for choosing camp over concert, recession must be setting in?..lol..I'm joking.

Here's the real victorian at work now.Hehehe..sad to say, tis poor victorian will no longer be continuing the bumming spree which has been going on for two months. She enters coll tis Fri. Cheers! Not!

Anyway, similarly to making orange juice, you need the main ingredient, the orange before the juice can present. I for one singularly lack the inspiration , thus the lack of creative juice at da moment. But no matter, I shall put my best endeavours forward to give you something to read.

On Monday (30/6/2008), yours truly made a journey to, can you believe it, KL Hilton for the HELP A-levels Ball ! Wow..Paris Hilton's hotel....Moving on.. That is some hotel I tell you, there's only one road to get into the place and when you enter the car park, there's a security check. I was unimpressed by the hotel though, I mean it has a 'wow' factor to its name but the car park is small and so not well planned (1u has a better car park layout). My gosh, the parking charges too! Unbelievable!

Alright, now moving into the hotel, lift was fine, not hot or anything, then going into the hotel, I've got to admit, the management has to improve its interior to cope with the changing times. The deco so did not have the 'wow' factor to it. It just seemed plain. Then, we made our way to the ballroom, had to redeem our tickets and my date got stuck with ticket registration stuff to do all thanks to some smart alec. No matter, I had the time of my life, mind you, admiring from the registration table glamourous gowns that the seniors of A-levels turned up in. I felt so underdressed. They looked simply fabulous. It was like going to the oscars except that they didn't have the red carpet and camera hogging cum show off gown session.

Make up was just "wow", dresses were just "wow, wow" and hairstyles were just *faints*..soo pretty! Gosh, HELP girls so know how to pull it off. In the ballroom itself, the deco was rather simple, they had candles on stands near the doors, and they had this really simple yet pretty idea of putting candles in a bowl of water and placing it on all the tables while scattering an abundance of red rose petals around it. It was simply romantic especially with the dim light, it created the perfect ambience!

Food however was another matter, it look lovely but tasted ..er..weird..Well, for starters , we had 3 scallops placed on some green "sauce" with vege all nicely "held" up with bread with olive oil and vinegar cleverly decorated on the plate. Gosh the scallops had such an acquired taste, 3 would be enough to kill anyone who couldn't get used to the taste. Second was stuffed chicken with some kind of "sauce" with strips of pasta n vege on top. That was edible , bless th LORD. Third was creme brulee with a strawberry in the middle and honey on top. It tasted fine because the honey was not so burnt on one side but the burnt honey on the other side of the bowl just spoilt it. Geez , what is with these people, can't they make something pretty taste good?

Performances were entertaining, praise the LORD. The had two performances of Latin dance , an acoustic performance by a HELP band ( can't remember the name...it starts with an "M"),they performed all my fav songs * grins*, another dance by a contestant of so you think you can dance , Q&A session for nominees for prom king and queen, bollywood dancing by nominees of best dressed male n female, lucky draw, and dancing on the dance floor for everyone at the end.

THe entire event started late and ended early. Haha..but overall despite the expensive but lousy food, it was fun and entertaining. Oh my, look at the essay I wrote. Whoops, sorry wen... better be going now. Enjoy !

Dilemma?

500 questions for that stupid Undang finally completed today. I scored 431/500..real smooth.

And the best part?

I have to REPEAT that stupid exercise again because I can't remember how many demerit points you *score* on the KEJARA system if you don't obey the *isyarat lalu lintas* or what the heck *injap brek* is used for.

And that's only naming a few examples.

Happy doing tomorrow..bleh.

I am in a dilemma now. The 26th of July evidently is a very popular date...On that particular Saturday, 3 events will be going on:-

  • SASA camp Day 2
  • Daughtry concert
  • Chelsea FC vs Malaysia

Since I have already signed up for the camp, looks like I might not make it to see the match!!!

A travesty! A catastrophy! I have been looking forward to this for AGES!!!

I'm torn. I really am.

I love Chris Daughtry as well.

But I can't back out of the camp now. I already told Ms. Jasmeen face to face that I am!

I leave it to fate. If we get back by about 7 I can still make it to either the match or the concert.

I hope.

I'm beginning to wish I'd never signed up to go to PD anyway.

Viva Espana!

Skipper and goalkeeper Iker Casillas celebrates with the trophy

Casillas waving to the fans

Ole! La Seleccion are the new champions of Europe!

Managed to catch only the second half of the Euro Final this afternoon. The Spanish were magnifico, pulling all the strings in midfield with their crisp, sharp, incisive passing while Fernando Torres ran the German defence ragged with his quick pace and commanding aerial presence. La Furia Roja could have easily killed off the game much earlier, but Sergio Ramos, David Silva and Marcos Senna were all guilty of missing gilt-edged chances; leaving the balance perilously poised, as Spain went ruthlessly in search of that second goal and Germany huffed and puffed their way towards finding an equaliser that never materialised. Die Mannschaft had a few dangerous moments in the 2nd half, but never really tested Iker Casillas other than a Michael Ballack effort that went just wide of the near post. Spain on the other hand, looked dangerous everytime they pressed forward and Jens Lehmann had to make a few vital blocks in order to keep the Germans into the game.

However, a 33rd minute goal from 'Nando Torres was enough to end the Spaniards' 44 year long wait for a trophy in style; a defensive miscommunication between Philip Lahm and Lehmann enabled Torres to head home by chipping the ball over Lehmann's head and into the far post. Dissapointment and despondency was written all over the Germans' faces as the final whistle blew, and Michael Ballack cut a pitiable figure standing on the pitch with a cut above his right eye and blood streaming down his face. My most heartfelt sympathies to him, as time and again he has driven and inspired teams to the finals; never giving up, yet time and again he has failed to win any major international title with either club or country. First the penalty shootout Champions League nightmare against the Red Devils (where he wept after Chelsea lost) and now this. I just hope that he will put this chapter of his life behind him and come back all fired up to win trophies at Stamford Bridge next season. But credit to the Germans for playing with grit and resilience for the full 90 minutes eventhough they were eventually outclassed, outran and outplayed by their opponents. You just can't win ugly all the time.

The euphoria and the elation of the Spaniards on the other hand was unboundless, as they hugged one another excitedly and jumped up and down, screaming their lungs out. One of the funniest moments was when they hoisted elderly coach Luis Aragones into the air! But they were gracious even in victory, forming a line of honour for their opponents; which I have to agree with the commentator was a nice touch. However, the Germans regarded them with a mixture of suspicion and anger, which was understandable. As fireworks burst into the air, captain Iker Casillas made history by becoming the first goalkeeper to lift the trophy and one can only agree that it was a Spanish victory well deserved. Being the only team to remain unbeaten in the tournament is no mean feat, and it seems that a there dawns a new era for Spanish football after groping in the Dark Ages for 44 years.

PS If you're wondering why there are no pictures of the Spanish team, it's because I thought he looked the best out of the whole lot. xD
