Posing in front of the giant Earth Hour petition by the HELP Environmental Science Club: (L to R) Wan Joo, Brian Chin, me and Jia Ern

28th March 2009 8.30 -9.30 pm marked the first Earth Hour held in Malaysia. Lights off around this time in a bid to spread awareness on environmental consciousness. I don't know how successful it was, but I do know that I got damn lot of mosquito bites for playing piano in the dark. Hope you people had a good time stargazing :)

Defeat

Noooo!!! I'm still in denial!!!

Chelsea 0 Tottenham 1

Curse you Aaron Lennon or whoever it was that fired the winning goal!!

Just when the impossible had happened....

Man Utd 0 Fulham 2

And the Devil's lead had been stripped to 1 point (should we win), we failed to capitalise and crashed and burned.

Add to that the horror of meeting Liverpool in the UCL quarters for the fifth straight season, and this caps off a very bad week.

So tonight, I'll be rooting for Liverpool to beat Villa.

4-1

Haha take that SAF! Liverpool romped to an AMAZING 4-1 victory at Old Trafford yesterday, cutting the Red Devil's lead at the top to 4 points, despite having played a game more. Stevie G and Co. fell behind to an early C-Ron penalty, but hit back when an in-form Torres capitalised on an uncharacteristic defensive error from Vidic. A Stevie G penalty, Fabio Aurelio free-kick and a cheeky Dossena lob finished off the world champions, who also had Vidic sent off later on in the second half. Their emphatic victory hauled Liverpool back into the title race in style, and ensured that the title race wouldn't be wrapped up this weekend as had widely been expected. Well done boys! Let's hope Chelsea can benefit from this tonight :)

Arsenal 4 Rovers 0
Sunderland 1 Wigan 2
Everton 3 Stoke 0

Went to LaFite yesterday night with my family as my parents had a 4-course dinner voucher which was going to expire soon. My conclusion is that my bro and I are definitely not ready for classy contemporary French food.

Reason #1: It tastes weird.

Reason #2: They take a hell of a long time to serve the food. It was 10pm when they brought out the main course, I was starving to death! My father says that that's the way they do things in expensive restaurants, eat course by course slowly, gives time for conversation blah blah blah. I told him that I'm not in a very good mood when I'm hungry.

Reason #3: We got restless in between courses haha.

Reason #4: The portions served are meant for tiny French people, not for hungry teenagers.

The Chocolate Bar

Their specialty: Lemon Tree (cute ain't it? =P)

We started off with 2 weird appetisers: Inside - out pizza (which was the size of an Oreo biscuit and tasted SWEET!!?!) and this cool dish where they give you three slivers of tuna and you're supposed to cook it on top of a heated stone; and dip it into tamarind sauce. Next, they served squash soup with hazelnuts and popcorn (????) and duck confit with mayonaisse and salad. Then, in the middle of the meal they served us apple sorbet with cream. I thought that was dessert lol. Finally, after a lot of whinging and grumbling, they brought the main course. My mum had kamikaze sablefish with vegetable sauce while my dad had Kobe beef with squared potato. My bro had beef ribs with French Beans while I had some weird Lamb Mediterranean which tasted awful! The vegetables tasted like muck while the sauce was bitter. Only the potato fingers they served with it redeemed it slightly. For desert, we ordered the Lafite Chocolate bar which consisted of a Snickers-like bar with hazelnut ice-cream and a bit of caramel sauce and the house specialty, Lemon Tree. The big 'lemon' contained lemon ice-cream and raspberry sauce which was supposed to be eaten with the tamarind powder (which the tree was made of) and chocolate powder.

It tasted so foreign to me, I can safely say I enjoyed the hot buns and garlic cream they served at the start lol.

D-Day

It started off like a nightmare. The results actually officially came out on the 12th, but for some God-forsaken reason, our dear HELP only received theirs at about 4 pm yesterday! Oh God. Methodist College released theirs at 12 pm, and it was TORTURE knowing the results are out, but not being able to see them. We kept badgering the lecturers and registry people about when the results would be out, to which they kept telling us that it all depended on when the results arrived from Edexcel. If they arrived on Wednesday night, they would be released on time ie the 12th. However, if they only received it on the day itself we would only be able to collect them on Friday. Worst case scenario: If the results only arrived on Friday, we could only see them on Monday (WTF!!!!). There were so many false alarms throughout the day; nobody seemed to be able to talk about anything else. Many of my classmates just clenched their fists in frustration upon hearing that MCKL had gotten their results; eventually bursting out with: I want my results NOW!!!

Waiting is horrible. The agony of it can consume you.

The past two days, I think I've consumed more alcohol than in my entire life. My father had been experimenting with variations of his home-made versions of Sangria (blame that new cocktail book of his); and he'd been making several glasses with differing juice, beer and wine concentrations. I've been so nervy, I drank like a whole glass on Wednesday night and couldn't stop smiling after that (is this what you call high?) and had another half while watching American Idol last night. Pointless poisoning of your liver, but sometimes one just needs a little pick-me-up and there was unfortunately no more Cloudy Apple and Pear (or regretfully, Hanepoot) juice in the fridge.

The night before, I kept on having dreams of As for every subject, but getting a D for Chem 4. 15/100! Omg. I felt so scared and panicky, I kept on waking up. It was alllll Brian Chin's fault for telling me that his super-smart friend in MCK had gotten all As and a D for Chem.

And on Facebook, Kenny was only too kind to remind us that it would be Friday the 13th the next day, eurgh. Even the fates were against us.

After a sleepless night, I awoke to gloomy skies and rain (it still is), and my mood began to mirror that of a thunderstorm. Call me a little superstitious, but I believe in a positive correlation between weather and grades. (On the days I collected my UPSR and SPM results, it was as sunny as Hawaii).

I forced down a sausage that tasted like cardboard for breakfast, and hurried to college. Entering the lower foyer, my heart lurched as I saw loads of my fellow college-mates, clutching white slips and talking busily on their cellphones. The place was buzzing with noise, but I noted (the panic escalating slightly) that there wasn't a single happy face in the room. Students were pointing to their slips, deep in discussion while some were just wandering around in a daze. I went to the table labelled 'T-Z', presented my ID, and collected that fateful piece of white paper. Folding it in half, I rushed to the entrance without opening it. And just in the nick of time too; I had evidently come during the lull-period between buses. Loads of my classmates and friends walked up the hill clutching umbrellas and books, wearing looks of grim determination on their faces.

I got into my mum's car, and at her insistence, steeled myself to lay eyes on the paper.

Edexcel GCE A-Levels January 2009 Results

Accounting Unit 1 300/300 A(a)

Chemistry Unit 3 120/120 A(a)
Chemistry Unit 4 83/90 A(a)

(A/N: What???!!! Am I dreaming? I expected to fail Chem 4!)

Economics Unit 3 117/120 A(a)
Economics Unit 4 80/90 A(a)

(A/N: Oh darn it, I was hoping for a clean score of 300/300 for AS)

Core Mathematics 3 88/100 A(a)
Statistics I 96/100 A(a)

(A/N: Very dissapointed with my Core 3 and Stats marks. I expected to do much better.)

Positives: No need to resit any papers. And since I think almost the whole class got A for Accounts, so Mr. Francis might be able to classify us as one of his best classes ever! :)

Negatives: Fei Ni and Carynn are probably dropping Econs! Who am I going to sit with and spend my free periods with now??? :(

BPL:-

Liverpool v Man Utd
Chelsea v Man City
Spurs v Aston Villa
Arsenal v Blackburn

Ahoy, Wembley-ho!

Chelsea 2 Coventry 0

Drogba '15, Alex 75'

Through to the FA Cup semis, Wembley's a-calling.

Unfortunately...

Devils 4 Fulham 0

Ouch, poor Cottagers. Was hoping Ben would get a run-out but obviously SAF wanted VDS to regain his confidence after that clanger against Newcastle midweek. Oh, and rumours abound that Capello is ready to break the rules and make Ben his no.1 in the upcoming Slovakia and Ukraine games, eventhough he doesn't turn out regularly for the Red Devils. Senor Capello is apparently so impressed with Ben that he's ready to make an exception for him...hmm well done...if it's true.

Sunderland 1 Spurs 1

The Abhorsen Chronicles

Only one word to say: Amazing.

I've already waxed lyrical about this fantastic trilogy in an earlier post, so I shall only say this: Go read it now! You'll regret if you don't. I would even go so far as to say this is the best fantasy series I've read since HP, and that's saying something. I'm currently struggling to trudge my way through Brian's Priestess of the White...somehow the book seemed nicer when I was reading it in MPH.

Midweek:-

Liverpool 2 Sunderland 0
Man Utd 2 Magpies 1
Chelsea 1 Pompey 0
Gunners 3 WBA 1

Tomorrow:-

FA Cup:-

Gunners v Clarets
Chelsea v Coventry
Devils vs Cottagers

BPL:-

Spurs v Sunderland

PS Frank Lampard has been revealed to have a brain-busting IQ of 150+, placing him in the top o.1% of the population's intelligence. An IQ of 140+ is considered to be genius/near genius. A Chelsea doc wanted to see if head injuries affected the intelligence of his players, hence the test was carried out. John Terry was among the top three players, but Frank takes top honours. As a comparison, the average adult has an IQ of 100 while on the other end of the scale, Albert Einstein's IQ was reportedly 160. Looks like he is intelligent both on and off the pitch, and that's saying something because the words "footballer" and "intelligence" don't really mix well. Yours truly's IQ is only about 120.

Ben Foster Shines :)

Okay...so what if United did win the Carling Cup? I don't mind so much because Ben Foster was the hero in the shoot-out! 0-0 after extra-time, Foster made a superb stop from O'Hara and made two crucial saves to deny Lennon and Bent in normal time. Way to go Ben! England's future No.1, so happy for him! Been a big fan since his Watford days. And it's been revealed the secret to his success was...an i-Pod! Apparently he watched footage of Spurs' penalty-takers on the i-Pod, which was the brainchild of their GK coach, cool or what. Most importantly, he's got Fergie admitting he'll probably be no.1 after next season, and finally got his big break to impress Fabio. What's even more amazing is that this is only his 12th game in 2 seasons, after months out with cruciate knee injuries, broken thumb etc. His very first cup final, and he's MOTM. He's been hogging all the headline for his shoot-out heroics...he deserves his time in the spotlight. Move over VDS, you've got competition!

Bad luck Spurs, looks like it's curtains for Europe next year.

Aaargh....I touched the line after reversing to come out of the parking spot, so fail again. Ish. I'm so tired of failing, I'm becoming almost immune to it.

2nd place

Lampard celebrates after scoring the winning goal

Omg I don't believe this!

Liverpool 0 Boro 2

Woot! Thank you Gareth Southgate!

We're back in second place!!!!

After JT had put Chelsea ahead, Olivier Kapo equalised at 82', but guess who pops up with the goods in stoppage time?

There's only one person.

Frank Lampard.

His impeccable finish and great sense of timing saw him head in past Chris Kirkland and seal all three points at the death (90+3) ala Stoke City; and leapfrog miserable Liverpool due to our superior goal difference.

What would we do without him? :)

Arsenal 0 Fulham 0. At this rate, they won't even be playing in the UEFA Cup next season. 8 points adrift of Villa now.

Class Outing 2.0 (continued)

Managed to find more pics on FB thanks to Wan Joo :)

PS It's a sad sad day when you find out that the hot Man Utd goalie Ben Foster is actually married with two kids. Best of luck to him on Sunday eventhough I'm rooting for Spurs.
At last look, it's Chelsea 1 Wigan 0 thanks to a superb JT volley at 25'. I refused to watch after that due to sheer nervousness. Game should be over by now, but I MUST resist the temptation to check the score...
Everton 2 WBA 0
PPS Driving on Monday. Third time lucky?
