You Are The Best Midfielder In the World...

...said Carlo Ancelotti. To Frank Lampard (who else :p). But I seem to remember a funnier incident in 2005 when then-Chelsea boss, Jose Mourinho made this exact same statement to Lamps...as he was coming out of the showers. Anyway, point remains is that even though its been nearly 5 years since then, Frank has somehow still managed to remain one of the finest midfielders in the world. (Not the best, I believe Fabregas of Arsenal as well as Barca duo Xavi and Iniesta deserve that distinction at the moment).

There was a time at the start of the season when I (and millions of Chelsea fans around the world) were fearing that perhaps the end was nigh; the goals were drying up for 'Super Frankie'. Running on a 10-game scoring drought, the ball just wouldn't roll into the net for him. Fast-forward a few months later, and it looks like happy days again. Scoring two marvellous goals in yesterday's home match against Birmingham and thus ending their extraordinary 15-game unbeaten run, Frank put on a masterclass yesterday, pulling the strings from midfield and slotting coolly twice past in-form Brum keeper Joe Hart. His second brace in as many league games, the signs are looking good again because as history points out; whenever Chelsea's talisman is banging in the goals, the Blues are never far from the top. Of course, this sudden burst of goal-scoring form has been put down to the tactical change from Ancelotti's favoured 4-1-2-1-2 diamond formation where Frank looked stifled and uncomfortable; to a return to our traditional 4-3-3 which allows him the freedom to get forward more often and make his trademark runs into the penalty box. It will be very interesting to see if Signor Ancelotti will continue with the 4-3-3 when the African players return, as it is also no coincidence that our recent good form has coincided with the change in formation.

And best of all, Arsenal's draw at Villa means we're back on top again with a game in hand after being knocked down to third in midweek.

Other results:-
Arsenal 0 Villa 0
Liverpool 0 Wolves 0
Man Utd 3 Man City 1 (Utd progress to Carling Cup final 4-3 on aggregate)
