Went to watch WALL.E with Kim today. Had a lot of fun catching up and gossiping with her! She owes me RM 2, so that gives us an excuse to meet up again sometime :) The movie was pretty good, looks like Disney and Pixar have served up another gem. WALL.E is a fun family flick for all, as the plot is neither too deep for the kiddies but neither is it too predictable for the adults either. It starts off with WALL.E being the last robot left to clean up the huge mess on planet Earth caused by land pollution and excessive garbage overfilling the land. Probe robot EVE is dropped on Earth to bring back any signs of vegetation, showing that Earth is ready to be lived in once more. WALL.E falls head over heels for EVE, and when EVE is transported back to the Axiom, he bravely follows her. The Axiom is the large spaceship where all the obese humans have been living for 700 years since planet Earth became unbearably polluted. The captain is extremely excited by the discovery of the tiny green plant in the boot, and declares that it is time to return home. However, his manupulative co-pilot (a robot named Auto) rebels and locks up the captain. Hence begins a frantic rush to free the captain and save the plant from falling into the clutches of Auto; who is determined to follow his *instructions* and prevent them from returning to Earth at all costs. The ending is suitably touching, with WALL.E and EVE reuniting and Earth being restored to its former green self. It was also interesting to see what might become of us in the future if this really was the scenario; the humans here are so used to being waited on hand and foot by their robotic counterparts that they are severely obese and have even forgotten how to walk! I almost hate to admit this, but I nearly cried when WALL.E was crushed to bits and *died*. Kim said I would have been mad to cry at a Disney show, so luckily I managed not to! There were plenty of funny and *awww* moments to keep you from getting too bored, and the strong plot and consistent pace of the movie were more than enough to make up for the lack of actual dialogue and conversation! But then again, who said you needed words to tell a good story?
I was happily watching Spurs vs Sunderland before my parents sadly decided to *gatecrash* and reclaim the TV. Luckily Kieran Richardson made it 1-0 to Sunderland at the 55th minute just before they came back. I am actually rooting for the Black Cats eventhough I support Spurs as I feel they fought extremely hard against Liverpool last week and thoroughly deserve a win against a disjointed Spurs side. Sunderland defended well throughout the first half; Nosworthy and Bardsley dealt well with Bentley's superb corner kicks and Bale's dangerous crosses while Andy Reid actually delivered some quality balls in from set play. I held my breath whenever Spurs went forward because Craig Gordon looked a little unsteady today (he actually dropped the ball once, luckily he caught it again!). Gareth Bale and Danny Collins both had superb chances which they both wasted and Malbranque a fantastic strike that hit the far post. Anyway, it could go either way so we shall see. Maybe even as I speak, Spurs may have equalised already lol. Gareth Bale got a yellow card for stupidly going down in order to try to win a penalty in the first half. Poor boy's not having a very good game. But Dimitar Berbatov wasn't even in the stadium let alone the bench! That means he's definitely on his way out. And that leaves Spurs extremely short of firepower, so Juande Ramos definitely needs to buy a new striker at least. Last but not least, surprisingly Craig Gordon managed to pull off the hideous away kit of apple green jersey and grey shorts quite well; he managed to look his usual gorgeous self :)
Tonight: Arsenal vs Fulham
Tomorrow: Chelsea vs Wigan
Prediction: Both to win by at least 2 goals
Ohmigosh, I almost forgot the most important thing today.
PETROL PRICES ARE COMING DOWN!
Since the world crude oil price was about US$ 123 per barrel as of August 22, the government has decided to take advantage of the current drop in price and lower the price to RM 2.50 per litre. Thank God, we do need some relief and something to cheer about these days.
